Maintenance Day

January is usually my motive power maintenance month.

For each engine I pull the mechanism cover, remove the lint and excess grease, lightly grease the gears and bearings, replace the cover and then clean and lubricate the running gear.  I then clean the tender wheels with Goo Gone and using some Goo Gone on a paper towel run the engine to clean the drivers.

This year I am also painting the cab roofs red.  This is the official paint scheme for the E&P and now is the time to get all of the motive power into compliance.

I have six of the thirteen engines cleaned and greased and four cab tops in the process of being painted.  This will bring me to seven red cab tops.  The rest of the cleaning and painting will have to wait until after the next OPS session.
