E&P Roundhouse Foreman Adds Momentum!

Status of #42 (The engine that caused all of the trouble in Furnace at the last session.)

#42 developed an issue where it would not run forward without binding but would run backwards just fine.  I first tried cleaning all of the running gear but that did not solve the problem.  So it was into the guts of the model.  What I found was either this engine never had or had lost its front worm gear shaft bearing.  I got engine #41 (a problem engine from way back) and tried swapping its running gear but it still acted as #41 which was to run about two driver turns and shut down.  So I used #41 for parts and grabbed the shaft bearing from it and placed it in #42.  After working on engine #42 for about two hours I finally got it to run smoothly both forward and backward. However in the process I pulled one of the wires out of the micro plug that goes to the tender and I also broke one of the threaded mounting posts. But I was able to solder the wire back into the plug and drill and retread the mounting post and everything is back in order and #42 should resume its duties at the next session.

Status of #34 (The engine that lost sound from time to time and has a jerky start.)

Of course I could not get it to loose sound on the test track.  So I concentrated on the jerky start.  The starting voltage CV, CV2 was already set to zero which is the lowest setting.  So I decided to add momentum!  Now for those of you who detest momentum (and I do) I didn't add much.  On a scale from 0 to 255 it is set at 5.  Just enough, I hope, to eliminate the jerky start by ramping up the starting voltage.  We shall see.  So like #42 #34 is back in service and should also resume its duties at the next session.
