Today I painted the smoke boxes on #33 and #34. I was going to paint the cab tops caboose red but both of my bottles were (and one still is) painted shut. In fact I broke one of the bottles trying to open it and that resulted in about a half hour clean up. But all of the paint stayed on the cutting pad and no real damage was done. Whew!
After lunch I corrected a wiring error with #34's cam and got that function working. The documentation that comes with the Tsunami is not great and I thought I remembered a wiring diagram in the Tsunami users guide. I found that and confirmed I had wired the function 6 output to the cam and not the cam input which comes off the back of the decoder. Anyway it is now fixed and working when you touch the brown wire on the engine to the rail. (I still need to install the cam and since both the right and left drivers are insulated from the shaft this is going to be tricky!)
I then installed some Kadee wipers on the 0-6-0 tender for the right rail pickup. I still need to add pickups to the other two wheels on the left rail pickup side. Why Mantua only put wipers on two truck wheels and not four is beyond me. This means the left rail only has two tender truck wheel pickups. Not enough! When I get done it will have four left rail pickups and seven right rail pickups. Hopefully that will be enough for this Thorny Point switch engine.
