Bachmann Spectrum GE 44 Tonner - gear noise problem

Does anyone have any insight in the various releases of the Bachmann Spectrum GE 44 Tonner engine?

Mine sounds like a coffee grinder to the point where the Soundtrax module is useless.

I was wondering if the newest versions also have this gear noise problem or if that has been fixed?

Also, has anyone had this experience and if so were you able to eliminate the gear noise?

Any insight would be helpful.
