Yesterday I got the Hood Brothers buildings completed and installed on the layout. I also got the loading platforms glued in place. Today I was able to get the last section of fence for the pig pen fabricated and ready for painting. By some stroke of luck the end of the installed fencing lined up with the end of the unloading platform so all I needed was a gate and some fencing to span the last opening.
Today I also built a pig trough to provide water. I still have a set of stairs to build that will be at the end of the receiving platform. Once these three pieces are in place I will start on the ground cover. This will be mostly bare dirt which I have problems getting to look right. I'm thinking about trying sand as a base and working from there using the ZIP texturing method. I have found the ZIP texturing method by itself doesn't provide enough texture. At least not the way I'm doing it.
The last job today was to get the pigs ready for painting. This required some filling and sanding. But now all of the pigs are ready for the paint brush. Now to decided on what color. If I go with Poland China pigs then black is the color. Otherwise they will be pink or white. Maybe a combination of all three?
I hope to have this area completed before the next OPS session.
