Engine 44 has lost steam (overheated) on it's last two runs. Initially the engine foreman thought it was because of modifications (CV changes) made two months ago. However extensive testing showed the modifications had nothing to do with the lost of steam issue. It appears the equipment is just getting old and doesn't have the capacity and reliability it did when new. So the engine foreman contacted E&P management and discussed the situation and options available.
After careful consideration E&P management has decided to reduce the maximum consist for the Broadway Turn from 10 cars to 8 cars. This is actually more in line with siding capacity on the Shenandoah Route. The siding capacity at Hopkins Spring (the first stop for the Broadway Turn) is 8 cars and this new consist limit will allow the Broadway Turn to get off the main at Hopkins Spring for any higher priority trains.
All paper work (even though it will never be read) will be updated and ready for the next session scheduled for March 21st.
E&P management expects these changes to result in smoother operations especially as they relate to the Broadway Turn. And as with the old 10 car limit the new 8 car limit only applies to the consist limit when the Broadway Turn departs White Hall.
