RF&P Signal Tower

Quite a lot of different tasks were tackled today.  First I took the last of the trees off the drying line.  They are now ready for painting.  I then moved into the workshop and started on some kit construction.

The first kit is a Mountaineer Precision Products B&O signal tower kit number 920HO.  This will become the RF&P diamond interlocking tower.  (It was built by the E&P and then turned over to the RF&P.)  A picture of this kit under construction has been posted to www.easton-and-potomac.com.

I have also started on the house kit that goes on top of the helix.  I believe I have decided on the gray/black wash combination I will be using to paint the house to give it a neglected look.

I also attempted to mix up some more tie and rail paint.  I used up my first quart years ago and I still have White Hall yard and the bridge track to paint.  So I decided it was time to get this job done.  But when I got ready to use the quart can I had been using it was too rusted.  So I need to get a new one.  I should have the next batch ready by Thursday.

I also did some research into piling spacing for the pier at Thorny Point.  Right now my plans are to build this pier and warehouse after I finish the switch tower and house kits.  The pier spacing is looking like it will be on 8 foot centers in both directions (down the pier and across the pier) except where the track runs.  Here I will run another line of pilings under the other rail.  I will need to get a jig built that will help with spacing these pilings as well as help with cutting them all to the same height.  (I have someone in mind for making this jig but will keep their identity a secret for a while.  They don't even know!)

I also hope to get back to planking around the Hood station as well as putting down the rest of the brown foam where the forests will go and painting the black where the water will go.

So all of this should keep me busy for the month of April and beyond.
