Getting ready for the next OPS session scheduled for March 16th I addressed all of the electrical issues that were brought to my attention during the last session. Of course I am in a parallel universe and nothing done will apply once all of the attendees arrive.
Anyway, it has been done.
Several engineers have been complaining about the low speed response of engine 43. So I went to work to try and correct the performance of number 43.
Part of my problem is I use an NCE system for my test track and it has a higher voltage on the rails than does my Digitrax system so most setting are not correct once the loco is moved from the test track to the layout.
NCE's PowerCab does not provide for voltage adjustments. The only way to adjust the voltage on the rails is to adjust the input voltage to the PowerCab. So I got out an old fashion power pack and using a multi meter adjusted the input voltage to give a track voltage that matches the layout.
Next I adjust engine 43's CVs to get it to perform better. Placing it back on the layout everything seems to be in order.
I then moved on to engine 50 that also had some performance issues and adjusted it's CVs. Back on the layout it also seems to be in order.
I then moved on to engine 51 to get it to match the performance of 50. All appeared well on the test track for a while then the decoder started acting up as if there were shorts. I moved 51 to the layout to see how it would perform. NOT WELL. The short issue was not present but the CV settings do not seem to be anywhere near correct. What gives?! I don't know so I will try and program 51 on the test track on the layout and see if I can get it to behave. No Good deed goes unpunished.
